Re: On the Docks
Evi could feel his mind going into happy flutters at the
mere sight of the dinner. It smelled, to use a cliche, heavenly.
But then again, most things did after a year of packaged food
and processed cheese. All sense of manners lost, Evi dug into
the food, eating as fast as possible. LIke the food would vanish
at any moment.
Of course, then he half-choked and went into coughing seizures.
Eventually the food managed to make it's way down the right pipe,
and he sighed, quickly finishing the rest.
"This food is so good I think I might cry," he whispered,
a hushed sense of gratitude in his voice. The salmon tasted like
ambrosia, the rice tasted like something out of an emperor's
palace, and the greens were cooked to perfection. Or maybe
his sense of taste was half-dead.
"I proclaim this to be the best meal I've had in two years,"
he said, and inclined his head in a pseudo-bow.

Re: On the Docks
Joshua was eating when he heard the wonderful commentary from the young mutant. "I'm so glad you like it!" he told him. "Eat as much as you like, there is some more food over there on the stove and feel free to visit whenever for a good meal Evi" he tacked on as well. Marco never complimented his food. He just ate it. Marco claimed that food was food and nothign special about it. Joshua concluded that he missed moms food and was afraid to say that something was better than hers. Joshua was glad somebody showed some form of gratitude
Marco ate his food silently, keeping his forest green eyes down on the plate as he ate. The food was a lot better than usual, but he never would say that aloud.

Re: On the Docks
Evi shook his head and sighed, "Too much of a
good thing will kill me some day. I'll just loose all
the weight I've lost of this diet." He smirked, "The
Zibyl Diet does wonders for your figure." He had
lost about ten pounds of body weight since he'd gotten
here.
Suddenly feeling tired, Evi yawned and stretched. He
wondered what time it was now. He needed to stop
staying up so late scrounging around. He slapped
his cheeks to wake himself up. That's better.
"Would you like to see my power? Admit that you're
even the tiniest bit curious." Evi half-smiled.
"Don't worry, it's nothing gross. At least by my standards.
" He caught Marco's gloomy expression and got an
idea.

Re: On the Docks
Joshua smield at the thought of seeing the mutants power. "You got me. I am pretty curious to see what you can do" he admitted to the boy and sat up a little bit, a small gleam in his eyes. As much as he hated that mutants were always after his blood, he found their powers very interesting.
After hearing about the powers, Marco's head lifted up a little bit. He wondered what the little mutant could possibly do. He todl himself that if he hurt a hair on Joshua's head he woudl swear to skin him alive. Marco was very protective around his younger brother.

Re: On the Docks
Evi smiled, then closed his eyes, a calm expression of his
face. Suddenly, butterflies began materializing out of the
strands on his hair: small yellow insects with dainty, lacy
wings that looked like they could snap at any minute.
These drifted peacefully across the room, one pausing to
rest on Joshua's head.
Then Evi's shadow contorted, slowly materializing and
forming into a little girl with brown skin and black hair. More
shadows materialized into a black dress. She smiled, then
exploded into a dozen crows. The birds alighted at random
high points in the room.
Evi opened his eyes and smiled. "I'm an illusionist," he
said, and one of the crows dropped onto his head. "They
may look real; you can touch and hold them, but everything
here is an illusion. It's not real. " The crow vanished in
a puff of black smoke.
The other crows followed suit, and the butterflies vanished
in a 'pop'.

Re: On the Docks
Joshua laughed in delight as he watched the butterfly land on top ofhim. "Wow this is so cool!" he exclaimed. He sounded liek an eight year old boy who was watching a show at the traveling circus. Before he could grab at the butterfly it was gone and his grin turned to a smile. "So you could make anything?!?" he asked, still with his ever so delighted tone of voice.
Marco sat and watched the crows and the butterflies flutter around in his boat. His expression went grom gloomy and cold to ease out to be a bit more clam. He enjoyed watchign the show but he hadn't smiled in years. He knew the only thing that could make him smile was his family, and that was impossible

Re: On the Docks
Evi shrugged, "As long as I have a definite picture
in my head. I use my ability to mess with people's senses and
perceptions so they believe what they're seeing is real."
He paused in thought, "Yeah, I suppose I could make
anything. I like doing animals the most."
In response to this, an illusion of a ferret wiggled out of his
sweater sleeve and hopped onto the table, hopping onto Marco's
lap and curling up there. It chittered happily.
"Humans are hardest, since it's difficult to give them emotions
and voices without it sounding fake. That's why I usually
make them mute."

Re: On the Docks
At the sound ofg animals, Joshua and Marco's cat, Simba jumped from Joshua's bunk and scurried towards the three of them. The cat mewed softly and watched the ferret. He nearly chased after it but the cat was a little apthertic from the fact he had just woken up. Jopshua continued to laugh as the young boy created all sorts of things with his powers. He was overal amused like a school boy.
Marco heard the mentioning of creating humans. And his eyes sparkled a little bit. It was just an illusion, it woudln't be his family. He looked at the boy and spoke, his tone not as rough. "You can make.... humans?" he asked, his voice overly hopeful.

Re: On the Docks
Evi took off his hat and mussed his hair. The ferret jumped
into the hat and vanished, as if seeking shelter from the cat.
He turned his attention to Marco, "Yeah. Just images though.
They're not really humans, since they don't have any personality.
I'm trying to work on making them more lifelike. Why?"
Evi watched the cat and smiled. He reached into his hat and
'pulled out' a ginger kitten. It mewled and padded over to
the senior feline, and batted at the tomcat's whiskers as if
saying play with me.
Evi returned the hat to his head.

Re: On the Docks
Simba was surprised at the sudden arival of the kitten. He didn't know it was just an illusion and it sat on its hind legs and began to bat at it, playing around with the kitten as if it were real.
Joshua looked over at Marco. He wasn't sure what his motivatiopn to ask about people. Unless..... Joshua shook his head a little. "Marco..." he whined a little bit ar his brother, in turn he ignored the boy.
Marco dug into his pocket and pulled out a family portrait. It was taken a month before the accident. Everyone was happy and smiling. The tallest was their father. His head had the brightest sheen of red and his eyes were an enticing green that shone that mixed with pride and joy. His face had traces of facial hair that dusted across his chin and to the bottoms of his tanned cheeks. His family was his lifeand second to it was fishing for them. The smile was big and bright, the same as Joshua's currently. The mother, standing right next to their father, didn't have the bright red hair everyone carried. She had very light brown hair. It was lightly curled at the ends and ehr eyes were as green as the fathers. She was a very slender woman who carried a very soft and modest smile. She was a sterotypical mother that scurried about to help her children. Next to the mother was A tall male with firey locks and a darker green eyes. He didn't smile as much and his eyes shown a little less enthusiasm. This was the oldest sibling, Max. He was the one that had gone missing. The other three children were up in front, Joshua, Marco and Marcella. Marco and Joshua had bright red orange hair like fire and their smiles were big and bright. The held onto each other tightly but kept an even tighter grip on Marcella. She was the baby of the family and her skin was as white as porcelin and her hair was a light shade of brown like her mother. When she was a baby she was very frail and needed a lot of attention ebcause she was so sickly. To the two younger boys that gave them more reason to love her and to Max, more reason to dislike her.
They were the picturesque' family that were lower middle class and never cared about the money. Marco looked at Evi with desperate eyes. "Create them. Make everyone except Me and Joshua. I want to hold them...one last time.... please. I'll let you live with us just give me back my family one last time" he pleaded with the child. Marco had never begged or groveled since the accident. Soemthign had clearly snapped inside of him. Josshua wasn't too sure what to make of it.

Re: On the Docks
[ aside: -cracks knuckles- Hah, holy crap this post is
long XDDD ]
long XDDD ]
Evi blinked at the odd request. Then, internally, he
smirked in an amused fashion. How interesting. And slightly
pathetic in his eyes. But the thought of regular free meals
was enough to tempt him. He took the picture from
Marco and studied it. It would definetly be tricky to do
four people at once. Ah well.
Evi cracked his knuckles one at a time, flexed his fingers,
and began: his eyes glued to the picture. Slowly, a shapeless
form rose from the shadows under the table. Slowly, it took
shape. A face, legs. Arms. Muscles. The facial features
morphed together; bright green eyes and a face torn by
the signs of years of smiling and age. His skin was tanned
but not dark, and his hair was a vibrant shade of red. Evi
threw in some gray hair around the temples for good measure.
His clothes formed, and they were simple: an off-white
t-shirt and black slacks. The man crossed his arms and
smiled, but said nothing.
The next person Evi formed was the mother. She started the
same way as the father: a shapeless blob of shadow. Evi
gave her shape. Added curves where appropriate. Her hair
was not long or short, and was a pleasant shade of brown.
Her eyes were a green almost identical to her husbands,
and after Evi added a blue sundress, she smiled and waved
gently at Joshua and Marco.
His legs began to tremble, but Evi continued. The missing
elder brother. For some reason, making him was easier.
The shock of fire-engine red hair and the shadowy green
eyes flowed smoothly, and his stoic expression was a
welcome relief from the impossible smiles.
By the time Evi arrived at the little sister, his hands were
shaking softly, though he continued. She stood next to
the mother, a soft-looking girl with a gentle physique.
Having already made the color of the mother's hair, the
sister's locks were easier to sculpt. Her expression was
slightly blank, as Evi had no more energy to use to
give her emotion.
Now done, Evi found himself plagued by the now stronger
shakes. He gritted his teeth and smirked. "B-betcha
tuh-thought I c-c-couldn't do it? H-huh?" Looks like
he had reached his limit for today. He made the kitten
vanish to alleviate the pain a little.

Re: On the Docks
Joshua stood up as the family was finished and nearly lept upon little Marcella. "Marcy! My little sis!" he exclaimed. In his joy he forgot they weren't real as he hugged the illusion and ran to his mother, his mouth spout of so many words at once, they were hard to comprehend. He hugged his mother and looked at the two with their auburn eyes. His babling still hard to comprehend, they were along the lines of how much he missed them and how much he changed to be a good man. He acted like they were truely real.
Marco's sudden sight of his family was not as joyus. He stood up, looking as shakey as the boy had who created the bunch and walked slowly towards Max and their father. He looked at his father first. "I'm sorry Papa. I know you don't hear me right now. You're busy up in heaven but damnit, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have talked Josh into doing all of that crazy stuff and stealing you're boat, I'm sorry" he said. And by the last sorry, his voice cracked. He was overcome with joy and fear. He was afraid to see his family in real life once more. They were images, ghosts of his past. But they were right there. "I never said this enough but I loved you Dad. You were the best thing ever to me and I'm sorry I'm not the man I should have been."
Suddenly his facial expression grew from fear and joy to a rage. He looked at Max and his fists curled. "You!" he cried out, slamming his right fist into the illusion of his brother. "You left us behind you bastard! You left us for dead! I bet you escaped somewhere and you never cared about this family! You never loved us! Look at you with that smirk on you're face! If you were right here I would tear that right off and tell you what for you lying kneiving sunofabitch!" he cried out, fists balled up. Marco grew to dislike Max in all that he did. Max always had a pained grimace or a devilish smirk towards Marco, saying he was out for him. He began to beat on the older brother image while Joshua was consumed in the women figures of their family. As Marco beat on Max, tears rolled down his eyes and he became weak. After a moment or two he fell to his knees and bent over, looking like a Muslim down in prayer, cursing softly to not only his brother, but himself for not being stronger.
Joshua heard it but his Mother gave him a look to say to leave him be, this too shall pass. Joshua, respecting his illusion mother did not dare look in the direction of Marco. His pride was stained enough, he didn't need his little brother to stain it more.

Re: On the Docks
Eventually, the shakes became so strong that
Evi was forced to abandon the illusions. In bright
explosions of creme, red, green and brown smoke they
vanished, leaving the room empty. Marco's angry
cries of hatred, and Joshua's frantic ramblings of
delight vanished with them.
Still, Evi's body was wracked with spasms. This was
bad, he told himself. The mental strain could kill him
some day, and yet he continued doing charity work.
Evi felt bitter upon thinking the words. What was he
doing here, anyway? Stupid.
He told his mind to calm down, and soon the shakes
lost strength, though they remained.

Re: On the Docks
Joshua saw his dreams explode right in front of him. The childlike shimmer left his eyes but the smile never left. He looekd to see Evi shaking and he ran over to him. "Evi....are you alright? I'm sorry did we strain you too much... sit down. Do you need to eat, drink? If you need to rest take one of our spare bunks." he said a little frantic. He didn't know how to deal with chrildren like this.
Marco sat there neeling to the ground, cursing still. He was almost in a trance.

Re: On the Docks
Evi half-heartedly punched Joshua in the chest. He
really wasn't into it today.
"S-stupid. I'm fine." But he sat down anyway, looking
tired and somewhat defeated. He knew his limits in creating
illusions; which was why he continued to expand the border
between creating and his own brain-death: to make himself
stronger. Of course, this was no where near the first time
he'd collapsed into spasms. Or the twentieth.
Experimentally, Evi exercised his hands, clenching and
unclenching them. Still felt a little weird, but he'd get his
full strength back soon. Unless, like that one time before,
he managed to get sick. And Evi couldn't afford to get sick.
But he chose to make light of the situation. He grinned
weakly at Joshua, "I bet you though I couldn't do it, eh?"
Voice was still a little raspy; he'd get better.

Re: On the Docks
Joshua smiled and chuckled. "You really are something else Evi." He commented. It had a double meaning truly. Joshua wasn't as stupid as he came off. He knew damn well that he was in pain and he pushed himself too far but he still refused to show it. He kept a wall up to keep everyone out. He admired it in a child but he wished there was someway he could help out. The second meaning that he was still overjoyed to see his 'family' again. He knew they weren't real but even holding Marcella and hugging his mom and having a conversation again, even if they did not have the vocal chords to speak. Joshua ruffled Evi's hair and smiled still. "I had no doubt in my mind that you could do it."

Evi smirked and shrugged. "It's always
fun being the charity case once in a while."
He shivered, but sighed and reclined back into
the chair.
"Illusions are different from other powers.
The aim is to create an image so believable
that a person's own brain thinks it's real. It
skews the senses. That's the point." Evi
tapped his temples. "While powers like
telepathy and possession focus on
invading and repressing the mind, illusion
takes advantage of the brain's weak points.
"Because of that, illusionists have to be
very precise, not like telepathists and possessors
who force themselves into the mind through sheer
force." His smile was melancholic. "Which
is why I need to be much more careful not to
strain myself."

Joshua nodded a bit as he spoke about his power. He found them very interesting and in all honesty, he thought of ho great it would be to have something like that. Hed be able to make his brother happy if he had something like that. It made him want to posses a power. On any other given day he would not think such a thing. He enjoyed being a human but today, he wanted to be much more. He waved his hand when the boy apologized. "It's alright. I'm quite intrigued" he commened

Re: On the Docks
Evi shrugged, "Nah, it's not really that
interesting. Just a couple mutated genes and
a bleak future. Luckily they provide complimentary
mints." He smirked.
Then he paused, "What time is it?" He'd
almost forgotten that he had a pile of junk,
er, rare stuff that he'd hoarded. He couldn't
afford to have anything stolen. Not now.

Re: On the Docks
Joshua laughed lightly at the joke. "Well its pretty darn interesting to me Evi" he replied with a smile and looked at the clock when he finished, He knew it was getting late due to the fact th light outide was at a bare minimum besides the solar powered lights attached to the boat. "It's about, 8:30 at night. You need to be somewhere? I'd be happy to provide assistance" he told the young boy. He knew Marcus wasn't going to snap out of his trance like state any time soon.

Re: On the Docks
Evi considered the ride for a moment, then
shook his head. "Thanks, but I can make my
way 'home' easily enough." He blinked, "
Provided, home is wherever I can wake up each
morning not dead." Currently, this was an
old, abandoned bakery. Rations for the last month
had included things made of flour and sugar.
He started stuffing his things back into his messenger
bag. Not that there was a lot to return. He
glanced at Marco, sitting in a semi-trance on
the floor. In Evi's eyes it was pathetic. What
was so important about your family anyway?
His hadn't done anything for Evi, except run
off, ignore him, and/or force him into horrible,
embarrassing situations.
He wouldn't elaborate, even in his own head.

Re: On the Docks
Joshua smiled and nodded. He knew the boy would be find without him, he had been surviving this long without him, why would it be different now? The fiery headed male thought for a second when an idea sprung up. He went to a cupboard and grabbed a small container. It contained dried fruits that wouldn't expire anytime within the next few months but retained its taste as if they were never dried up, a special trick that Joshua created in the middle of the night two years ago. He walked back to the boy and extended his arms to give the boy the tin. "Evi, take this with you. Its got good food for you to have when you get hungry if you decide not to come back. Enjoy!" he said brightly "Think of it as a deep thank you from me and Marco but especially me. Visit anytime please" he added on and gave it to him.
